VIDEO: WITH GEMMA

Here’s a great video featuring supermodel Gemma Ward. It’s shot by another one of my favorite photographers, Glen Luchford.

So what’s so special about this video? It has NO SOUND(all thanks to YouTube and it’s policies).

I thought I should post it because it’s a fine example of a crucial element in videos, a great soundtrack or score.

While watching the video, fire up your media player and play a song that you feel would be a good accompaniment.

The song I chose is “Schindler’s List Theme” by John Williams (Ishtak Perlman is the violinist).

Simply adding it to this video gives it so much emotion. It just…fits.

Let me know what song you choose!

COMMENTS: GIVING BACK

JamiyaWilsonBlog-FreeLunchThis comment posted on APhotoEditor.com is for those who think they’re owed something and that photographers should give back to the “community”:

“A creative person busts their ass, spends decades developing their art & business. Probably hundreds of thousands of dollars as well. How much has this “community” you reference been involved with the work and investment these creatives have strived towards? Why is your community entitled to a gift? Where is the mutual exchange?

Bottom line, there are no free lunches. Creatives who pay dues and work hard develop their own strengths.”

I agree wholeheartedly. Get off your ass and put in the work required to accomplish your goals.

No free lunches!

THOUGHTS: GONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

muppet_christmas_carolMerry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

No updates until the new year!

I plan to start posting more BTS articles and update at least 1-3 times a week.

Also, my photography style is going through some changes. Expect crazier work in 2010!

Now I’m gonna take a break and watch The Muppet Christmas Carol.

THOUGHTS: PHOTO WORKSHOPS

Photo Workshop
Oh man, the photo workshop. $1000 to learn the tricks of the trade from a “pro”.

I’ve attended a few in the past. Some good, some bad.

Price doesn’t equal quality. The cheaper ones were often better than the wallet-buster ones.

As with all things money related, it’s best to shop around before you pay anything.

Perhaps you can learn the same thing, for FREE, through Google.

Most of the techniques I use were learned from hours of searching the web.

If you must attend a workshop, make sure it’s designed to give you an actual skill by the end.

A useful skill like retouching, lighting white backgrounds, or proper digital capture will help you a lot.

THOUGHTS: HOLIDAY “SPECIALS”

Christmas WreathIt’s that time of year again and retailers are pulling out all the stops to entice you with “specials”.

$25 REBATE, Save $100, NO INTEREST, 0% FINANCING

After you see what you could have saved by ordering online:

100% BUYER’S REMORSE

Most of the deals available at local stores are easily beat by online retailers (Screw YOU Samy’s Camera!).

Plus there’s usually no sales tax, promo codes you can use, and free shipping!

If you’re doing any holiday shopping, think about online alternatives to save some money!
