Have you ever heard the story of Chicken Little? About the little chicken who believes the sky is falling? A chicken so afraid of imminent danger that he tells everyone about it, causing a frenzy in the animal kingdom?
Yeah….that one.
Are YOU a Chicken Little?
Here are some signs that YOU are a Chicken Little in the photo industry. People who can be described as being a “Chicken Little” possess the following qualities:
- Talk about the recession non-stop, even when there is no longer a recession or economic crisis
- Complain about the lack of work they’re getting and how much worse things will become

Talk about convenience! So I’m currently aboard a Delta airlines flight headed to New York and I must say, in-flight Wi-Fi is where it’s at!
No more pulling my hair out on long flights because I can’t respond to business emails! The connection is fast and I can pretty much access everything I need to while in flight. I haven’t checked out Youtube or anything requiring significant bandwidth, but for basic browsing, I have no complaints!
Well besides the little kid behind me, whining like a lil’….

Samy’s Camera, the premiere camera store in Los Angeles, sucks. There I said it.
Will I ever shop there again? Not a chance. Go B&H!
Let me elaborate.
Samy’s Camera features:
- Piss poor customer service (Avoiding eye contact from customers, as to avoid having to deal with them, is NOT good customer service!)
- Suspicious pricing (They seem to charge whatever number pops up in their head! True story!)
- No returns (It’s 2009, how do you not offer returns for a full refund? Just saying.)
If you’re a professional photographer (unless you REALLY need to make an in-store purchase) I advise you to go elsewhere. How about the internet? Stores such as B&H and Adorama have my vote. Plus they’re MUCH cheaper!
Heck, even Best Buy is better than Samy’s, although they don’t have as wide of a selection. But they do have matching t-shirts!

One major benefit of recent technological advancements is the way retouchers are able to make seamless composites of multiple images. This gives photographers, art directors, and anyone with the know how almost limitless possibilities for creating images that otherwise would have been impossible (at least 20-30 years ago).
Imagine wanting to do a shoot in a white room, where office workers are shooting paintballs at each other! Now imagine how hard that would be to capture in one shot?

While out of town visiting my family for the 4th of July, I had the opportunity to read a very interesting article in RESOURCE MAGAZINE, about legendary photographer Brian Duffy.
Unlike many articles about photography, this article avoided the typical self-indulgent, pat on the back antics that are common with photography articles.
Instead, photographer Brian Duffy talks about a life behind the lens that is not so glamourous, almost maddening.
So maddening in fact, that it drove him to retire while being on the verge of a very successful photography career.
